Mike has worked in retail for more than 10 years, starting off at the Co-operative Group before moving to Booker in a group buying role.

After a brief period as national account manager at Speedibake and some time spent travelling, he joined Morrisons in 2002 as a buyer for ice cream and frozen potato products.

Clarke (not pictured) joined the Co-operative Group in 1984 on a YTS scheme, working in a completely different field as a junior administrator in the personnel department. She went on to hold various secretarial roles in legal services and buying. In 1994 she moved across to become trainee buyer for meat and poulty. She joined the frozen buying team three years ago. Her responsibilities included overseeing buying for butchery and processed meat, pizzas and savoury pastry. She took up her current post two years ago. She has gained various on-the-job qualifications, including a 2:1 business studies degree.

Trainee buyer, fish, desserts and ice cream, ASDA

Wyatt joined Asda in 2000 on its Talent Store Graduate Training Scheme. He worked his way up to trading assistant in frozen foods in June 2002. In October 2003 he became trainee buyer for fish, desserts and ice cream and moved to trainee buyer for frozen chips and vegetables in January.

Baggot joined Sainsbury as a graduate trainee in 1987, occupying several buying posts in the following seven years, mainly in the fresh produce area. She was then promoted to category manager for the meat department for three years, becoming category manager for non-foods before a stint at the trading strategy group. She joined Waitrose as frozen foods buyer in July 2001.

Senior buyer, ice cream & frozen desserts, SAINSBURY

Lewis became senior ice cream buyer in Sainsbury in summer 2002. Desserts were added to his repertoire in 2003. He is responsible for range, price and promotions across the category, alongside building relationships with suppliers. Before joining Sainsbury he worked in marketing and sales.

White began her career in buying at 18, working for Fisher Foods’ fresh produce department as a packaging buyer. She moved to the retail sector in October 2001, becoming a vegetable buyer with Iceland. She assumed her current post at Tesco two months ago.
