Despite only being at Waitrose since March, Simpson-Jones picked up the most votes from suppliers this month.
They praised him for his ability to drive the category and build up the range while developing great working relationships with suppliers. Simpson-Jones says the buying team at Waitrose has a good spirit and that he works hard to bring the same team ethic to his work with suppliers. He enjoys the category and says: “People browse a lot in this category and I suppose that’s what makes the job more interesting. There are a lot of quality products.”
Simpson-Jones started as a merchandise assistant at Marks & Spencer and then worked at Sainsbury for five years as a buyer.
