Asda tops the fascia chart this week with Sainsbury close on its heels. The Asda share is driven by a high volume of two for' promotions, especially on alcoholic drinks and snacks. The alcoholic drinks category is very strong in Asda with six different products claiming extra space in the aisles. World Cuisine is also well supported in Asda with Chinese New Year playing a role. The sheer volume of buy one get one free promotions in Sainsbury carries it to second spot. New surveys in Morrisons' stores show plenty of promotional activity, bringing the chain in at number three. Somerfield, however, has little activity this week. The World Cuisine category flew to the top of the chart anticipating Chinese New Year which began on Tuesday. All chains have some promotion relating to Chinese products with Sharwood's Noodles and Uncle Ben's Sauces driving the category. Off fixture displays and gondola end sitings are prevalent. Alcoholic drinks remains in the top five categories having had its lead significantly reduced last week and again this week by World Cuisine. Among the most eye-catching promotions this week is a Sarson's Vinegar Win Free McCain Chips For A Year off fixture display which can be found in Sainsbury. Also in Sainsbury a large display could be seen for an Uncle Ben's buy one get one free offer and chance to win a trip to Hong Kong. Jif Lemon also made an impact in store this week with extra space prevalent as many stores made an effort for Pancake Day. Coca-Cola remains dominant by staying joint top of the brand chart while last week's new entry, Pepsi, has fallen out of the top 10. Uncle Ben's, driven by Chinese New Year, and Kellogg's surge to share the top of of the chart with Coca-Cola. Sharwood's is strong in store with promotions on stir fry sauces and noodles. Amoy is among the top 10 as stores promote the Straight To Wok range.
