Supermarkets dominate a new list of the most valuable names in UK retail, with Tesco – perhaps unsurprisingly – crowned top.

Marketing consultancy Interbrand said the UK’s largest supermarket had a ‘brand value’ of £6.2bn. That placed it one ahead of Marks & Spencer, whose brand was valued at £3.7bn.

In fourth place was Asda (£900m). Sainsbury’s (£526m) was seventh, Morrisons (£265.9m) eighth and Waitrose ninth (£209.5m).

Asda parent Walmart, the world’s largest retailer, led the global rankings. Its brand value was deemed to more than 10 times that of Tesco.
