Tesco has started selling diamond solitaire rings in its stores.
The rings, ranging from a £47 1/10th carat stone in a 9ct gold setting, to a £1,297 one-carat diamond in an 18ct gold setting, will be sold in 26 stores.
Alison Ladd, Tesco jewellery buyer, said: “Everyone wants the best possible stone, especially for that special piece of jewellery like an engagement ring, but not everyone has deep pockets.”
