Tesco has put in a planning application for a mixed-use regeneration scheme in Streatham, south London.
The scheme will include a new 38,000 sq ft Tesco store, private and affordable housing, a public square, improved public transport links and a new ice rink with leisure facilities including two swimming pools. "Land is at a premium in London, so you have to be clever about planning applications," said a Tesco spokeswoman.
Tesco will apply for Sport England funding to replace the existing rink that is in a state of disrepair. It said the plans would enliven the area and benefit a new store as it would achieve community buy-in.
If the application is given the go ahead, then the scheme is planned to be completed in 18 months to two years.
