Makro has made its third senior management appointment in two months as the cash & carry wholesaler attempts to turn around the business.

Makro's German parent company Metro Group has parachuted in Patrick Legro, operations director at Makro Greece, to take up the same role in the UK.

Legro will be responsible for overseeing Makro UK's future store programme, through which eight depots will be refurbished by the end of the year. He will also ensure Makro's 30 depots are geared up to support its Love the Pub and Every Day Takeaway marketing campaigns.

Legro has worked at Metro Group for 10 years, starting out as a management trainee at Makro Poland. He then moved to Romania to become a depot manager and subsequently a regional manager, before moving to Metro Vietnam to become operations director. He joined Metro Greece in 2006.

"If you think like a customer then you get a firm understanding of the customer's needs and are able to shape the business accordingly," he said. "I've worked and lived in many different countries, but am very excited about moving to the UK and look forward to putting my experience to good use in the transformation of Makro UK."

UK MD Hannes Floto described Legro as Makro "through and through". "It is this level of experience that will help us achieve our objectives," he said. "I'm confident we now have a strong board and senior management team in place that will take us to the next level of our transformation programme."
