NHS workers will also be allowed to move to the front of any external queue when waiting to enter

Central England Co-op is rolling out a 10% discount to all NHS workers as a thank you for their efforts battling the coronavirus pandemic.

NHS workers will receive the discount on food and other essentials at all 242 of the society’s food stores across 16 counties, upon showing their ID card.

They will also be able to get priority access to Central England Co-op stores by moving to the front of any external queue when waiting to enter.

“Our NHS workers are playing a vital role at this uncertain time and that’s why we wanted to do something to say thank you for their incredible efforts,” said CEO Debbie Robinson.

“Frontline workers, similar to our own colleagues in our stores and funeral homes, are essential to ensuring communities continue to be helped and supported and we cannot thank them enough for their efforts.”

The retailer had also previously announced a range of measures to support and thank its own colleagues during the virus crisis, including reducing opening hours to allow cleaning and restocking to take place, bringing forward its annual share of profits and increasing staff discount.
