Costcutter has identified fruit and vegetables as a major area for growth, according to Jamie Davison, director of sales.
Improving the fresh produce ranges at the symbol group was a key way to withstand the impact of the multiples’ forays into the convenience store sector, he said.
Davison said that Costcutter was introducing a premier service, which provided six-days-a-week distribution to the 1,300 stores that operated under the fascia.
Deliveries would also be smaller and more frequent.
“The difference between an exceptional independent retailer and a good one is the quality of the fresh produce offer,” he said.
