
Winner: Hunt’s Food Group
Dorset-based Hunt’s Food Group has not just had a stellar year in terms of sales growth – it has also been able to future-proof its business via a series of shrewd acquisitions.
The wholesaler increased its turnover by 30% with deals for Longmans and Something For Supper among others. The purchases helped Hunt’s grow and improve its own-brand offer, which is now responsible for 25% of total sales.
It was also able to expand into new sectors after snapping up The Fine Food Co, supplying into hospitality, restaurant and pub customers.
At the same time, it has transformed its product range with new lines such as fruit & vegetables, as well as savoury baked goods including pies, pasties and sausage rolls. And it’s increased business in the fine dining sector.

Hunt’s deals also went beyond its food and drink businesses. The purchase of commercial vehicle workshop and dealership SMV Commercials, which it subsequently rebranded as HFG Commercials, now enables Hunt’s to carry out all vehicle maintenance inhouse, improving the fleet’s efficiency while reducing costs.
The forward-looking wholesaler has also made major investments into internal systems and its team. This included developing a new customer-friendly e-commerce platform, while strategic recruitment has enabled staff retention to reach an all-time high and improved colleague productivity.
