Winning a Farm Shop & Deli Product Award can offer a wide range of benefits to food and drink suppliers.

Whether it’s the potential to secure new listings, the knowledge your peers have rated a product highly, or the recognition it gives staff and suppliers, there is plenty to be gained.

Entries are still open for the 2023 Farm Shop & Deli Product Awards, giving you the chance to join the ranks of businesses that have benefited from winning. Here’s what a few of last year’s winners had to say about their success.

Over the Moo

Winning two gold awards has been one of the highlights of Simon Goodman’s journey to bringing Australian dairy-free ice cream brand Over the Moo to the UK.

“I knew the product tasted great and the format was something consumers would love, but having a group of experts confirm this meant so much,” he said, adding that farm shops and delis will be key to distribution for the brand.

“Farm shops and delis thrive on selling great-tasting food and are always on the lookout for something new and different. The awards endorsed this and have been a very important part of the conversations we are having.”

Goosnargh Gin

“We are really careful about what competitions we enter,” said Richard Trenchard, co-founder of Goosnargh Gin, which won gold and silver awards at last year’s event.

“Some awards hold real gravitas, and the Farm Shop & Deli Product Awards were important for us to connect with the types of retail businesses we support.”

Brindisa

Brindisa founder Monika Linton felt winning an award for its beetroot gazpacho was recognition of the quality of the business’ suppliers.

“It highlights the work our Spanish producers put in, making great traditional products as well as wonderful innovative products such as this gazpacho, and brings this quality to the attention of a wider audience,” she said.

Wye Valley Meadery

This Caldicot-based business won a gold award for its 14.5% abv Traditional Mead.

“As with any new product and new business, to win such an accolade is incredibly reaffirming, and shows we are making something that has appeal to the consumer,” said co-founder Kit Newell.

You have until Friday 17 February to get your own entry in for the 2023 Farm Shop & Deli Product Awards, which highlight and reward the best the specialist food market has to offer.

The awards are open only to products sold in farm shops, delis and other specialist food retailers, and are judged by independent retailers, wholesale buyers and other industry experts. Leading retailers and wholesalers are supporting the event, including Booths, Cotswold Fayre, Diverse Fine Foods, Kitchen Food Co and Thyme & Tides.

The judging process will consider criteria including value and branding, along with taste, so the winning products not only taste great but should also perform well in store.

Ambient products will be judged in March, with winners announced throughout April ahead of the Farm Shop & Deli Show at the NEC Birmingham from 24 to 26 April 2023. Chilled or frozen products will be judged at the Farm Shop & Deli Show on Monday 24 April 2023, and winners will be announced live on stage that afternoon.

Entrants will receive a feedback report following the judging.
