Mini Moons will hit Sainsbury’s freezers on 15 March

Little Moons has added a range of even smaller mochi bites, called Mini Moons.

Inspired by Little Moons’ best-selling mochi ice cream flavours, Mango & Passionfruit, Salted Caramel and Malted Chocolate, each contain 24 bites made with soft mochi dough and a creamy cheesecake filling (rsp: £5/168g).

Each bite weighs in at just 7g – less than a quarter of the size of a standard Little Moons mochi, which is 32g – and provides 22 calories.

According to Little Moons, they are best enjoyed straight from the freezer but are “deliciously moreish for up to 30 minutes” before being returned to the fridge or freezer.

They will hit Sainsbury’s freezers on 15 March.

“More than one in 10 snacking moments happen on the sofa in front of the TV, and chocolate bags and biscuits have dominated them for decades,” said Little Moons director of marketing, innovation and sustainability Ross Farquhar.

“With the launch of Mini Moons, we’re offering shoppers something bold, new and exciting for those occasions and growing the frozen snacking category in the process.”

Rebecca Normington, senior buyer at Sainsbury’s, added: “We’re really excited to see these amazing products hit Sainsbury’s shelves as part of our summer re-set that will see a flurry of new products to excite our customers.

“Part of our strategy is to be the destination for ice cream in the market, giving customers even more reasons to visit the frozen aisle,” Normington said.

The launch will be supported by a campaign spanning PR, influencer and experiential campaigns, with a pop-up appearing in London later this month.

Meanwhile, Little Moons has expanded its HFSS-compliant Refreshos range with Lemon & Elderflower (rsp: £5/6x30g). The new variant, “inspired by the viral trend of Amalficore”, is exclusive to Tesco.

Little Moons last month launched a TikTok campaign that invited shoppers to vote for its next mochi ice cream flavour: Strawberry Matcha or Cherry Cola Float.

Cherry Cola Float was ultimately revealed as the winning flavour and will launch as a limited-edition via Gopuff on 6 April.
