1) What’s happened with the packaging tax?
The plastic packaging tax came into force in April in a bid to encourage the use of more recycled plastic in the UK. However, just weeks before it came in, a YouGov survey found three-quarters of retail and manufacturing businesses were still unaware of the tax. So how’s it landed in its first couple of months? 2) Podback podfuture?
Podback launched in April 2021 as the first ever recycling scheme for coffee capsules. Formed by a partnership between Nespresso and Jacobs Douwe Egberts, the scheme allows coffee drinkers to return their capsules at a drop off point or via kerbside collection across seven local councils. With recycling schemes proving to be a tricky business in the food industry, are there lessons to be learnt from Podback’s rollout? Where has the scheme gone right and wrong? And is it really as eco-friendly as it makes out?
