Morrisons and Sainsbury’s have cut their fuel prices for the second time this week.
Both diesel and unleaded will be cut by a further 2p at all of Morrisons’ 333 filling stations today, and at Sainsbury’s 308 forecourts tomorrow.
The price reduction comes just two days after the supermarkets slashed the price of fuel by 1p.
Morrisons said customers will pay no more than 112.9p on unleaded and 113.9p on diesel.
A 5% fall in oil prices on Thursday led to the cuts, the UK’s fourth-biggest supermarket said.
“We are responding quickly for our customers as many will be filling up at the weekend,” said Roger Fogg, Morrisons’ services director.
Asda reduced prices on diesel and petrol by 1p per litre yesterday, setting a national price cap of 113.7ppl on unleaded and 115.7ppl on diesel.
Tesco also cut fuel prices earlier this week, by 2p a litre for diesel and by 1p a litre for unleaded.
RAC fuel spokesman Simon Williams said: “It’s rare to see two price cuts from a supermarket in one week, let alone the introduction of a price cap, which is great news for motorists across the country as it brings some very welcome pricing reassurance as well as helping to reduce the effects of the postcode fuel lottery.”
