The supermarket launched its Plant Pioneers range in 2019

Sainsbury’s has been forced to recall its own-label onion shroomdogs after pieces of metal were found in the product.

The supermarket has taken affected packs of its Plant Pioneers caramelised onion shroomdogs (300g) off sale online and in stores due to the issue.

Items with use-by dates of 6 or 7 January are impacted. No other products have been affected.

The Food Standards Agency urged any customers to have bought the product not to eat it and instead return it to a Sainsbury’s branch for a refund. Vulnerable customers or those shielding can get assistance on Sainsbury’s website or via its Careline over the phone.

Sainsbury’s has issued PoS notices to all branches that stock the shroomdogs. These outline why the product is being recalled and advise shoppers what to do if they have bought it.

The supermarket apologised to customers for the inconvenience caused. It would not confirm what instigated the issue.
