Fiddleford Mushrooms, in Dorset, Pond Chase Nurseries, in Essex, Shackleford Mushrooms, in Surrey, and Snowcap Mushrooms, near Peterborough, produce 380,000lbs weekly, 95% white and 5% brown and chestnut. This level of production makes SMC one of the biggest retail suppliers in the country. Grower member Adrian de Candole said that the group was established to supply Tesco, still its largest customer. Now the consortium plans to approach other multiples and to launch a new product range in autumn.
