Heinz has launched a healthy version of its Beanz Snack Pots range.

Reduced Sugar & Salt Beanz Snap Pots, on shelf this month (rsp: £1.79), contain 30% less sugar and 25% less salt than the standard recipe and more tomatoes to compensate for the reduced sugar and salt. Heinz has also added more tomatoes to the canned version of the reduced salt and sugar beans.

The new product would meet demand for quick, convenient, healthier snacks, said Heinz marketing manager for beans John Alderman. Although the production costs were higher, these would not be passed on to shoppers, he added.

"An extra cost is involved in producing beans with a higher tomato content, but this won't be pushed through to retailers or consumers and we are confident we will make back this cost via repeat purchase," he said.
