Select & Save is crediting its new supply chain with Booker for attracting new retailers and boosting sales.
The symbol group switched from Bestway to Booker in February, taking on a new five-year deal with the wholesale giant.
Earlier this month, Select & Save welcomed independent retailer Velnithy Veluppillai, who was operating a store on Cannock Road, Wolverhampton under Parfetts’ Go Local Extra fascia.
The new partnership had given the retailer access to a “better supply through cash & carry and delivery” across fresh, chilled, and frozen, as well an “improved store branding”, said Select & Save.
’We are delighted to have Nithy join us at Select and Save,” said Select & Save sales director Barry Coleman. “I have known him for many years, and he is an excellent forward-thinking retailer who strives to give his customers the best experience in his store.
“We are excited to see his store grow and early signs have seen a 20% increase on his weekly sales, with chilled up 25% already from his previous supply. We look forward to working with him on his other stores.”
Veluppillai added: “I am so glad to be joining Select & Save and teaming up with Barry and his team at this exciting time.
“Our previous supplier was unable to match our ambitions and supply, but this new partnership will enable us to offer a great chilled range to our customers, as well as a huge promotion package.
“Sales are already up around 20% since the new fascia went up as the branding looks incredible and this has made all of the local area come in which has resulted in us picking up a lot of new faces.
“The team at Select & Save have been great to work with and I can’t wait to continue this partnership in the future with my other stores.’’
An affiliated forecourt store on Crankhall Lane in Wednesbury, near Birmingham, owned by Danny Ahmed, has also joined Select & Save this month. The store now offers a range of food to go and drinks machines, including I-Squeeze, fresh pineapple machine, F’Real, Costa Coffee and Fwip, and a selection of curries home-made by the retailer’s family.
“We are hugely excited to be working with Danny at Select & Save,” said Coleman. “Having a great relationship with him from our previous work together, Danny is the sort of retailer that we want to be partnering with as we rapidly grow the new brand.
“Initial sales are already up 30% since rebranding the store, which is testament to the whole team on both sides getting this project done. We are now working with him to roll out the brand at his other sites due to the huge success of this one.”
Ahmed said: “I am truly delighted to be joining Select & Save at such a dynamic and promising time in its journey. The new branding has transformed the store’s image and created a real buzz locally. We’ve already seen a significant uplift in performance, which is testament to the strength of the Select & Save brand and the dedication of the team behind it.”
