S&A agreement

Soft fruit grower S&A Produce has agreed with union bosses to allow access to its workers and collective negotiation. The T&G hailed it as a victory in its long-running dispute over labour conditions with S&A.

Promising volumes

Despite a disastrous apricot crop, South African stone fruit growers predict overall volumes will be up 20% to 2.4 million cartons this year. Peaches and nectarines have done well, offsetting apricots, which are down 40%.

Fruit research boost

Dutch fruit and veg trader The Greenery has sponsored a chair at the Netherlands' University of Wageningen in an effort to boost innovation. It will research topics such as fruit ripening and preservation.
