Pork giant Karro Food Group is to invest £500,000 at its Malton slaughter and processing site to improve production efficiency.

It plans to upgrade its main processing line, and claims the move will reduce energy usage and improve pig hair removal. The investment is part of Karro’s ongoing review of manufacturing operations across its business, which encompasses parts of Vion’s former UK pork operations.

The changes would “result in the business having a system that is best in class,” Karro said.

“We’re committed to investing in technology and techniques to improve the way that we operate,” added Di Walker, executive chair at Karro Food Group.
