Ribena marketing director Anne MacCaig has been named CEO of Fairtrade hot drinks company Cafédirect.

MacCaig replaces Penny Newman who has been CEO of Cafédirect since 1998 and received an OBE for services to ethical business in this year's New Year's Honours.

Newman had left "to pursue other opportunities to encourage and inspire social entrepreneurs", Cafédirect said.

MacCaig has more than 20 years of experience in marketing and senior management roles, working with major brands from Persil and Dove to Rolls-Royce.

As marketing director for Ribena she led the brand's strategic turnaround, overseeing the '95% of Britain's Blackcurrants Make It' campaign. She also worked with blackcurrant growers and The Wildlife Trust to encourage diversity on British blackcurrant farms.

"Cafédirect is a catalyst for change," she said. "It's pioneering a new way of doing business, one that puts growers at the heart of the company."
