Like Christmas, Easter prompts a clutch of ads from the retailers - only the spring holiday’s less clearly defined traditions make marketing more difficult. Is it a sit-down meal thing? Do we all do Easter egg hunts now?

Aldi doesn’t even try to dictate occasion with its approach. Instead, it simply shows off its hot cross buns, lamb, Easter eggs and ‘organic wine’. In a pleasingly bizarre move, its two ads are narrated by an animated Easter hamper, which vomits out goodies at passers-by as it tells us what it reckons makes an ‘amazing Easter’.

The basket cheerily fends off a hungry dog and a chocolate-smeared glutton, plus there’s a nice rugby-based sight gag. All the while, big, bright, reasonable prices flash up on screen. All the bases covered, then.
