Last weekend’s Super Bowl brought with it the usual festival of advertising. We enjoyed Doritos’ triangle-fixated spot starring Jack Harlow and Elton John, but the best one came from Pepsi.

In two ads, Ben Stiller and Steve Martin respectively explain that their jobs, as actors, are to make us believe what we see is real. They show off their talents, illustrating pain, disappointment, friendship and so on in a variety of amusing ways.

“But it’s just acting,” they tell us at the end – before slurping a Pepsi Zero Sugar and pantomiming approval. “Or was I just acting?” It’s quite a challenge – the only way to be sure is to try it, we’re told.

Both ads are funny, with their self-aware stars in relaxed form – but Stiller’s edges it thanks to the inclusion of his Derek Zoolander character.
