Popchips’ UK TV debut shows off the brand’s optimism. For a start it’s set in a world where people work, together, in an office.

Three staffers are “taking two with the crew” when they (literally) bump into their intimidating boss, Janet. To dissipate the awkward moment, she’s offered a Popchip, which she loves. The experience unlocks her fun side, and soon she’s relaxing with the team at a bowling alley. Later “she organises an awayday that becomes an annual event”. (We’re meant to think these are good things.)

Despite healthier snacks taking the fight to crisps, Popchips stays subtle on this front – the awayday is a physical challenge and there are a couple of references to the chips being ‘popped, not fried’. The focus here is firmly on fun.
