Sainsbury’s treated its customers to free tea and biscuits over the bank holiday weekend as it continued to celebrate its 150th anniversary.

Shoppers at Sainsbury’s stores nationwide could help themselves to packs of ginger snap biscuits and red label tea, complete with retro packaging bearing the Sainsbury’s 150 logo.

The retailer used the hashtag #TeaAndTalk to encourage customers to share the freebies with friends and neighbours.

In addition to the in-store giveaways, Sainsbury’s visited local communities to deliver complimentary tea and biscuits to night shift workers such as Becky Apperley-Gawn, a zookeeper at Chessington World of Adventures.

The gifting marked the start of the retailer’s 150 Days of Community initiative, in which Sainsbury’s colleagues will be given the opportunity to volunteer for a day in their local communities.

As well as launching a TV ad campaign this month, the retailer also hosted a pop-up exhibition and immersive theatre experience in London’s Covent Garden over the weekend, designed to take guests through the supermarket’s 150-year history.
