Marks & Spencer has announced it will be cutting the number of executive directors from six to three after a shake up of its management structure.

The three executive directors will be Stuart Rose, Charles Wilson and a new finance director to replace Alison Reed, who has announced she is leaving after 20 years with the company.

Also leaving the company will be Jean Tomlin, the human resources director and Jack Paterson, business unit director.

The chief executive, Stuart Rose, has also rearranged the management structure to include new appointments for Anthony Thompson, who will be the new director of retail, and Fiona Holmes, his current executive assistant who will become childrenswear director.

Regarding the job changes, Rose stated: “If we are to succeed we need to change how M&S is led and how it operates.”

Rose also announced that Keith Cameron will become human resources director and a new director of home will be appointed shortly, with Steve Rowe acting as interim director. The search is also on for a director of food.
