M&S is to become the latest supermarket to feature in a high-profile TV documentary this Christmas.

The retailer said the ‘Inside M&S at Christmas’ programme, which is set to air on ITV, on 21 December at 9pm, would give customers “unprecedented” access to its stores and supply chains in the busy run-up to Christmas.

“M&S Food has been synonymous with Christmas and customers always turn to us at this important time of year for some M&S magic,” said Sharry Cramond, director of marketing and hospitality at M&S Food. “This year, more than ever, they have told us that they want to protect Christmas and put food at the heart of it.”

Two of the retailer’s stores – Clapham, London and Newcastle Silverlink – will feature in the hour-long programme, as cameras follow staff preparing the food and drink sections for the Christmas period.

The programme will also feature a Highlands-based smoked salmon supplier, members of the grocer’s product development teams, as well as a behind-the-scenes look at the production of its 2022 Christmas advert. This year’s ad saw Dawn French reprise her role as The Christmas Fairy, joined by her long-time comedy partner Jennifer Saunders as a tattered dog toy.

“Christmas at M&S is fun, frantic and full-on as we get ready for the most exciting time of year, with colleagues pulling out all the stops to make Christmas extra special – and ITV cameras have captured it all,” Cramond said.

It’s not the only high-end grocer to give viewers a festive look behind the scenes. Waitrose’s own equivalent ‘Waitrose at Christmas’ aired on Channel 4 on 12 December while Channel 5 also aired ’Inside Aldi at Christmas’ this week.
