Marks & Spencer is trialling fresh service counters at two of its stores as part of a revamp of its food halls.

The retailer has opened a butcher, fish and rotisserie counter at its stores in Meadow Hall, Sheffield, and Bluewater, Kent.

The Butcher's Shop and Fish Shop are manned by trained butchers and fishmongers and offer a range of products cut to order, including free-range pork and haddock, as well as ready-to-eat shellfish such as cooked prawns.

"This trial is all about offering our customers a fantastic fresh food experience," said Marks & Spencer food director John Dixon. "We're trialling in two different parts of the country so that we can get a good insight into our customers' views on the products on offer."

M&S would not disclose how long the trial period would last, but said it would consider rolling the counters out if they proved successful.
