What was your first-ever job? I worked in my mum’s coffee shop, and even baked cakes and cookies for her to sell.
What’s been your worst job interview? I went for the Aldi graduate scheme and found myself trying to justify why I’d save the ‘mum with kids’ from an island vs the ‘man with skills’. As the only female in the room I was the only one with this view…
What was the first music single you bought? Gloria Estefan - Conga, on tape.
How do you describe your job to your mates? I make people want to eat cheese - they all reply ‘well that must be easy’.
What is the most rewarding part of your job? Seeing someone pick up your product from the shelf and say ‘I saw an ad for this, I think I’ll give it a go’ - that was a real-life experience and I had to really hold in my squeal.
What is the least rewarding part? Realising decisions are made at many different touchpoints in a consumer’s life and you can’t possibly tick them off all the time.
What is your motto in life? ‘Do your best and you’ll be fine.’
If you were allowed one dream perk, what would it be? A barista in the staff canteen - you can’t beat a lovely coffee.
What luxury would you have on a desert island? A cow: the amount of nutrients and vitamins in milk is incredible and it’d be great company too!
If you could change one thing in grocery, what would it be? The amount of shoppers who just buy ‘from end’ - it makes it a real struggle for newcomers and smaller brands to get out there.
What’s your favourite film and why? The Wizard of Oz - the classic film of a girl who overcomes every obstacle to reach her goal and makes some brilliant friends.
What has been the most embarrassing moment in your life? Probably explaining a marketing idea to the commercial director around Anchor Squirty Cream on Valentine’s Day - amazingly titled ’Every Flirt deserves a Squirt’… At the time I didn’t realise the double entendre, now I look back and cringe.
Which celebrity would you most like to work with and why? Taylor Swift - she inspired me with her reaction to being stage-jacked at the VMAs in 2009. Her ability to pick herself up and move on to even greater things is something everyone can learn from.
