What was your first ever job? The payroll department of WH Smith. I lasted six months then got offered an apprentice IT engineer role with a global company. I’ve never looked back.

What’s been your worst job interview? When I was an IT apprentice with a global IT company. The interview took all day, including three IQ tests and multiple face-to-face interviews. It was over the top.

What was the first music single you bought? Cherish by Madonna.

How do you describe your job to your mates? They don’t really get what I do, so I just say I spend all day emailing people.

What is the most rewarding part of your job? Seeing someone in the team achieve their goals and watch them develop within the business. It really gives us all a buzz.

What is the least rewarding part? Dealing with lots of minor issues. They always take more time than you imagine.

What is your motto in life? Have no regrets, just life lessons.

If you were allowed one dream perk, what would it be? A helicopter: get anywhere in the country in a fraction of the time without being stuck in traffic.

Do you have any phobias? I’m really not a big fan of blood. Mine or other people’s.

If you could change one thing in grocery, what would it be? I would introduce more technology into retail. It’s an area of the industry that is growing, however there’s plenty more to be done. Advances in wearable technology and radio frequency identification will bring more revolution in this space.

What luxury would you have on a desert island? The internet. Then I could Google “how to survive on a desert island.”

What animal most reflects your personality? A squirrel.

What’s your favourite film and why? Spider-Man. A boyhood dream was shooting web from my hand and swinging from buildings.

What has been the most embarrassing moment in your life? A former boss asked me to interview a lady who started stripping off halfway through. It got even worse when there was whipped cream involved. It was my 21st birthday and it turned out my boss had planned a surprise for me.
