A new variety of long life pineapple has been unveiled by Fresh Del Monte.
The Del Monte Honey Gold is described as having a smooth, distinctive bright yellow exterior, a refreshing, slightly sweet flavour and intense aroma and features a long shelf life at room temperature.
The company said the variety was developed over a five-year period of extensive research and product testing and expected it to be in supermarket aisles by 2006.
Mohammad Abu-Ghazaleh, chairman and chief executive officer of Fresh Del Monte, said: “This is a delicious pineapple that will be an immensely popular extension to our ever-expanding product line.
“Consumers will quickly embrace this new variety, which combines outstanding taste with a long shelf life.”
