Las Iguanas

Butternut Squash Moqueca is 100% plant-based

Las Iguanas, the Latin American-style casual dining chain, has made its grocery debut with chilled ready meals exclusively for Sainsbury’s.

With prices of £3.50 to £4, eight mains have rolled into stores nationwide based on flavours from Peru, Brazil, Mexico “and beyond” – spanning curries, tortillas and risotto-style dishes.

The meat variants include Creamy Lime & Peanut Flavour Chicken Xinxim and Chunky Beef & Black Bean Chilli, while Sweet Potato & Butternut Squash Enchiladas and Cauliflower & Corn Quinotto are vegetarian, and Butternut Squash Moqueca is 100% plant-based.

The launch this week came in response to “53% of Brits saying they are curious to try Latin American food” said Sainsbury’s.

“That’s why we jumped at the chance to partner with leading restaurant Las Iguanas to launch our delicious new range of ready meals,” added the supermarket’s buyer James Lydall. “We’re proud to say that these meals aren’t available at any other supermarket in the UK.”

The arrival of the Las Iguanas lineup marked “another step in our commitment to becoming the destination for distinctive flavours” he said.

It comes as casual dining chain Bella Italia launched a 10-strong range of ready meals into Tesco, joining recently launched lines from Giraffe and Ed’s Easy Diner in the grocery giant’s freezers.
