‘I was immediately engaged by the bold vision of Ranjit Boparan and his team to lead the way in ensuring a strong, sustainable and responsible future of food for the UK and beyond,’ Tyas said.

2 Sisters Food Group has appointed Chris Tyas as chair of its Carbon Board.

The former Defra non-executive board member and food sector veteran will oversee the board, established to drive the company’s net zero by 2035 agenda.

He will also advise on the poultry giant’s supply chain resilience and take a lead role in the business’ incident management team, which is tasked with maintaining business continuity during the Middle East conflict.

President of 2 Sisters’ parent company Boparan Holdings Limited and Boparan Private Office Ranjit Boparan said he was “delighted” to have appointed Tyas.

He said his “leadership in environmental sustainability, together with his depth of experience in UK and global food supply chain resilience, will be of great value”.

Tyas has spent over 40 years in a variety of supply chain leadership roles for businesses such as Mars and Nestlé.

He also spent two years co-chairing Defra’s Food Industry Resilience Forum, helping to galvanise the sector to work together in navigating the UK food supply chain through the coronavirus pandemic.

“I was immediately engaged by the bold vision of Ranjit Boparan and his team to lead the way in ensuring a strong, sustainable and responsible future of food for the UK and beyond,” Tyas said. “It is ambitious but certainly achievable, and I am extremely pleased to have the opportunity to contribute and provide the benefit of my many years’ experience in the industry, particularly during this challenging period for food security.”

Boparan added: “We are making our biggest ever investment in the future of food, developing next generation factories and farms, to provide sustainable, nutritious, affordable, quality food that is kinder to the planet. Chris’ appointment will provide us with even greater specialist expertise as we move into this new era.”
