Jane Asher aims to breathe new life into the graveyard of the home baking aisles with the launch of a new range of "baking solutions".
The Jane Asher Home Baking Collection which hit the shelves at the end of January aims to drive more traffic to the home baking section, which is currently visited by just 25% of customers.
The 10 strong range which includes chocolate fudge cake, chocolate chip cookies and blueberry muffins is produced in partnership with own label cake mix specialist Victoria Foods and is separate from Asher's frozen dessert range.
The new range will initially be sold exclusively in Sainsbury. It will be made available to other retailers in the autumn.
The total home baking market is in long-term decline because of lack of time and confidence. Last year the market was worth £332m and is only forecast to grow 3.8% by 2003.
Baking mixes are more buoyant with a 7% rise in sales last year to £52m and a predicted growth of 19% over the next four years.
Rsps: £2.29 - £5.99.
