Martin Agnew, managing director of the Henderson Group, has become chairman of Spar’s National Guild - the ultimate authority within Spar’s democratic guild system.
Agnew heads a board that includes an equal number of retail and wholesaler directors and has power over decisions that affect Spar members nationally, including the annual marketing programme. Agnew is joint managing director of the fourth generation family company, the Henderson Group, which is now one of the top six companies by turnover in Northern Ireland.
His group employs 1,800 people and has 400 stores, which are run under the Spar and Vivo brands.
Agnew said that he hoped to involve even more members in the guild’s affairs.
