Asda has debuted two new flavoured cheeses on the back of the #CheeseTok social media trend.
Limited-edition British Cheddar with Sweet Roast Garlic (rsp: £2.50/200g) and Yorkshire Wensleydale with Mango & Ginger (rsp: £1.99/200g) aim to meet consumer demand for premium tastes, the supermarket giant said.
The garlic NPD had been developed in response to Asda customers going “absolutely wild” for the flavour, said Matthew Forde, the supermarket’s product development manager of cheese.
It comes after searches for Asda’s Garlic & Herb Cheese Blend spiked by 2,000% last year, when a social media post of the product went viral, the retailer claimed.
British Cheddar with Sweet Roast Garlic is described as combining roast garlic jam and subtle spices, while the wensleydale is mild and crumbly with sweet mango and warming ginger hits.
“The sweet mango, which is a trending ingredient this summer, really complements the tangy wensleydale cheese, and the ginger adds a touch of warmth which works really well with it,” added Forde.
“It’s a refreshing spin on the traditional wensleydale and cranberry, which can feel a little too festive for this time of year.”
