Borough Broth has unveiled a duo of chilled bone broth gravies.
Proper Beef Gravy and Proper Chicken Gravy have rolled out into more than 200 Sainsbury’s stores (rsp: £5/400g).
Drawing on Borough Broth’s expertise in organic, slow-cooked bone broth, the gravies offered home cooks the convenience of ready-made gravy while delivering “the flavour of a broth that has been cooked slowly from real bones”, said Borough Broth.
They combined “real British bones, organic ingredients and slowly simmered broth” to create a “rich, homemade-style flavour”, it added.
Proper Beef Gravy is made with the brand’s grass-fed beef bone broth and herbs, and is finished with red wine for a “rich, savoury flavour”.
Proper Chicken Gravy, meanwhile, combines the brand’s free-range chicken bone broth with herbs and white wine to create a “lighter, brighter” gravy while retaining the depth of flavour associated with traditional stock.
The gravies should be kept refrigerated until ready to use and can be heated on the hob or in the microwave.
“Moving into gravy felt like a very natural next step for us, ” said Ros Heathcote, founder and CEO of Borough Broth. “Everything we stand for really comes down to one word: proper. Real broth made from organic British bones, fresh ingredients and, most importantly, time – drawing out stock slowly over hours to build layers of flavour.”
Heathcote added: “In a world where everything can be made instantly, we want to celebrate the things that are still made well. We’ve taken the time and done the heavy lifting for home cooks and they can now enjoy the convenience and taste of a homemade ready-to-use gravy without compromising on how it’s made or its ingredients.”
Borough Broth’s foray into gravy comes amid a flurry of bone broth NPD.
Earlier this month, Re:Nourish launched what it claimed was the first microwaveable bottled bone broth, while Freja unveiled a range of ambient soups made with bone broth.
