Commentary: If you add all the stores for the top four food retailers there are over 1800 and the majority fir into this size. Managers will traditionally be promoted from within and where they are recruited externally the candidate will generally come from a competitor in a similar role.
Salary Trend over the last 12 months: An inflation increase on basic salaries has been coupled with an increased bonus opportunity. This has not been as large as Hypermarket Managers but is certainly significant.

Commentary: General Managers will come from an area role or a comparable single site. Background will be flexible to product, but will almost certainly be blue chip.

Commentary: Candidates will have come form a variety of backgrounds, the key will be the ability to manage in a fast paced environment.
Salary Trend over the last 12 months: This is a particularly competitive market for managers and therefore salaries have increased by over 5% with better bonus opportunities.
Fashion Retailers:-
Shed and out of town (turnover £8m+)
Store Manager £30,000 - £40,000 + Bonus 30%
Deputy Manager £18,000 - £25,000 + Bonus 20%
Sales/Team Manager £13,000 - £18,000 + Bonus 10%
Commentary: Fashion experience is essential for the store and generally the deputy levels. Sales Managers is a highly competitive market to recruit for candidates will move frequently at this level.

Top High St Stores (£3m - £5m) Mainstream Fashion
Store Manager £25,000 - £35,000 + Bonus 30%
Deputy Manager £15,000 - £25,000 + Bonus 10%
Commentary: Fashion retailers traditionally only recruit those with like experience, which makes this area very difficult to recruit for as most organisations have similar salary bandings, making the brand the most attractive reason to move.
Salary Trend over the last 12 months: High street fashion has been very competitive, however has not been able to compete with the increase in salaries in food, although there has been marginal increases.
High St Stores (£1m - £3m)
Store Manager £18,000 - £25,000 + Bonus 10%

Commentary: Same as Top as Top High St Stores
Concession Managers (£200,000 - £1m)
Manager £11,000 - £15,000
Commentary: Notoriously difficult to recruit as the candidate will have the responsibility for the store, however can have as few as one sales assistant. Excellent opportunity for first position in management.
