The British Retail Consortium hopes to announce the identity of its new director general within six weeks. Staff have been told that a shortlist of several strong candidates has now been drawn up for the £150,000-a-year job. BRC sources denied suggestions that outgoing Sainsbury boss Dino Adriano was one of the names. And acting director general Mark Bradshaw is not thought to be on the list either. Anne Robinson quit the BRC in November to join the Gas Consumers' Council as chairman. Her departure came amid disagreements over the future direction of the consortium. One source said internal rows were getting worse, which meant the BRC was "not a happy ship". {{NEWS }}
