BrewDog Distilling Co has launched Ron Bodega – a new premium rum brand.
It was created for “an unapologetically bold rum offering, built for both pursuits and innovators behind the bar,” according to the supplier.
Initially, the Ron Bodega line up will comprise two molasses pot-distilled rums; a 40% abv unaged White Rum (rsp: £45/70cl), and a 46% abv 6 Year Old Cask Aged Dark Rum (rsp: £60/70cl). Both have rolled out via DTC.
Ron Bodega White Rum offered a “silky backbone of caramel and burnt sugar, followed by mango, pineapple and a hint of ester funk”, BrewDog Distilling Co said.
Meanwhile, the Cask Aged Dark Rum has been twice in traditional pot stills from rich sugarcane molasses and matured in sherry casks.
It offered “indulgent layers of caramel, ripe tropical fruit, dark berries and a warm vanilla finish”.
“Ron Bodega started over six years ago, but at the time we didn’t really have a plan for the liquid,” said BrewDog Distilling Co managing director Steven Kersley. “We put some of our molasses pot-distilled rum in a selection of handpicked sherry casks and let time work its magic. We’d come back to these casks to taste them every few months, and what was happening inside the wood was clearly something significant.
“Over time, our rum has taken on a rich barrel character and rounded out into, developing into an indulgent caramel-forward rum, layered with ripe tropical fruits and a natural vanilla warmth.”
Ron Bodega will join BrewDog Distilling Co’s Duo Spiced Rum, as well as Lone Wolf Gin, Abstrakt Vodka, Casa Rayos Tequila and Wonderland Cocktails in the Aberdeenshire-based supplier’s portfolio.
Unlike Duo Rum, which is a blend of BrewDog Distilling Co’s own rum and others from the Caribbean, Ron Bodega is 100% distilled and matured in Scotland.
