Indian street food café brand Chaiiwala is to launch its first customisable box for one, The Wala Box, and a new Family Platter.

The Wala Box, priced at £10.95, will offer customers a single-serve way to sample several Chaiiwala menu items for lunch or dinner.

Each box includes any Wala Wrap or Bombay Toastie, loaded chips, a Punjabi samosa or any pasty and chilli & garlic dip.

The food-to-go chain is also launching a Family Platter, which includes two Wala Wraps and two Bombay Toasties – both of which will be cut and wrapped to serve four portions – alongside chips, two Punjabi samosas, Pani Puri Poppers, a selection of three dips, and 10 shareable sugared doughnuts for £29.95.

The launch reflected growing demand for Indian street food across a wider range of dayparts and customer occasions, the brand said, and would broaden its appeal across solo dining, evening trade and group occasions.

“For me, the best thing about Indian food is the mix of textures and tastes, but not everyone wants to – or can afford to – order a heavy curry, rice and sides every time they want to enjoy Indian flavours,” said Chaiiwala co-founder Sohail Ali.

“With the launch of these menu options, we’re embracing our role as the pioneers of Indian street food and making it even easier for solo flavour-seekers to enjoy a tasty and affordable lunch or bring people together for a memorable meal.

“It also strengthens our offer for dinner and late-night dining. Over the last decade, we’ve built a strong reputation as a brand that offers authentic flavour. Now, with these options, we’re bringing flavours to dinner and late nights that always hit the spot.”

Last month, Chaiiwala opened its first 24-hour drive-thru site in Blackburn to further tap into late-night snacking, as well as early breakfast occasions.

Speaking with The Grocer in May, Ali described early trading at the 24-hour drive-thru as “amazing”, adding that the business “had not had a zero hour yet”.
