Metro will take its cash & carry operations to Malaysia, Thailand and Indonesia as it continues its policy of aggressive overseas expansion.
Belarus and Ukraine are also in the German giant's sights, said a spokesman.
Metro's first outlet in Vietnam will open on March 28. The company said cash & carry operations should start in India and Japan by the end of the year.
The news of its expansion follows the surprise departure of C&C boss, Bernd Bothe.
Metro said Bothe left the company on "friendly terms". He will be succeeded by Thomas Huebner, formerly chief operation officer for Metro's Eastern Europe operations.
