Costa coffee is to invest more than £1.5m in its Welsh retail estate this year, with at least four new openings planned.

The first of the new sites is located within Sainsbury’s Newport Superstore, which has created seven new jobs. It features 60 indoor seats and will be open from 7am to 7pm Monday to Saturday, and 9:30am to 4pm on Sunday’s.

The Newport store marks Costa Coffee’s first Welsh opening of the year, with at least three further stores set to open in the coming months. This includes two new drive thru’s in Border Retail Park in Wrexham and in Buttington Cross, Welshpool.

The coffee giant will also be opening a new store in Sainsbury’s Rhyl Superstore this summer, as it looks to strengthen its presence within retail destinations.

Together the new stores are expected to create more than 40 new jobs across Wales and will see Costa operating a total of 110 stores across the country.

“Wales remains a key growth region for Costa Coffee, and we’re proud to be continuing our investment across South, Mid and North Wales this year,” said Costa Coffee regional operations director for South West, Wales and Midlands Matthew Cyprus.

”The opening of our Costa Coffee store in Newport Sainsbury’s is the first of several planned for 2026, as we expand our footprint and bring Costa Coffee to even more communities. These new stores will not only provide greater choice and convenience for customers, but also create valuable job opportunities locally, while giving more customers a warm, welcoming place to enjoy great coffee, made with heart.”
