Flamingo (UK), the sales arm for more than 15,000 tonnes of Kenyan vegetables and flowers produced by Homegrown (Kenya), has signed a marketing agreeement with Hortico which produces a similar range of crops in Zimbabwe.
Apart from looking towards logistics and packaging cost savings, the aim is to cooperate to improve quality and yields.
Sales of trimmed prepacked beans, sugar snaps, mangetout, fresh peas, young carrots and asparagus grown in East Africa have experienced a supermarket boom, stocked year round. Other seasonal crops such as summer sprouts have followed.
