Domino’s has launched its first Pod store format designed to unlock growth opportunities in smaller retail units including roadside and travel hubs, The Grocer can reveal.
The 720 sq ft store, which opened in Wellington, Somerset on 3 November, is around 25% smaller than a traditional Domino’s store and will offer both collection and delivery.
It will offer Domino’s pizza menu and will be the first site in the region to offer the food-to-go chain’s recently launched Chick ‘N’ Dip brand, which includes a range of tenders, wings and boneless bites.
The Pod model looks to help Domino’s achieve its long-term growth strategy of reaching 2,000 stores across the UK and Ireland, allowing the business to expand into previously untapped locations.
“Eighty-five per cent of households in the UK are currently served by one of our Domino’s stores and we know that to reach our ambitious store opening targets, we also need to innovate our store formats so we can unlock new locations,” said Domino’s Pizza Group COO Nicola Frampton.
“Opening our first Pod store is an exciting and important step in our long-term growth strategy as it provides more flexibility for our franchisees to reach customers in different locations to our core stores. This, coupled with the way we innovate our current stores and invest in our brand offering, help set us up for the next phase of growth.”
