Suppliers named six of the best buyers in health and beauty for qualities such as consistency, dedication and approachability

This month The Grocer asked suppliers in the health and beauty world which buyers were doing a good job for the category. August’s Star Buyer is Chris Silcock from Asda. He has been a buyer for men’s toiletries, deodorants and dental care for the past 15 months and says he loves his work.
Suppliers said that they enjoyed dealing with Silcock because of his friendly and approachable style.
And one supplier said: “Chris has been very proactive in bringing new product development to consumers. He is easily available and he will always return your calls very promptly.”
Helen Burch, who was previously a buyer at Sainsbury and Safeway, is now a buyer at Superdrug. She was nominated because of her strength in new product development and because she was very supportive of new product launches.
Two Tesco buyers have also been nominated. Health and beauty buyer Vanessa Campbell and Alex Holt were both admired for their dedication and ability to work with suppliers to drive growth.
Holt is also a health and beauty buyer, covering haircare, washing and bathing.
One supplier said of Holt: “She is consistent in her approach and shows dedication and determination to drive through Tesco initiatives. She challenges suppliers on core values to ensure that together with Tesco they can deliver profitable growth.”
Nigel Sharp, who was also nominated, has been at Waitrose for more than 27 years. He has been a buyer for 16 years and is currently health and well-being buyer.
He was nominated because of his willingness to listen to new ideas and ability to follow them through.
Sharp was also said to be approachable and suppliers said he took enjoyment in developing the category.
