Foodservice packaging brand Eco-Products is to officially launch its range of reusable, recyclable and compostable packaging in the UK.

The brand, which provides environmentally responsible products across stadiums, universities, cafés and caterers, will roll out its packaging in the UK through its sister company, Edinburgh-based Vegware.

Its portfolio includes reusables such as the new Veda collection, which offers “durable, high-performance” products designed for closed-loop reuse systems, recyclable products such as hot and cold cups compatible with UK recycling streams, and compostable packaging designed for industrial composting.

“As in the US, demand continues to grow for products and services designed to help the foodservice industry meet its sustainability goals,” said Eco-Products general manager Wendell Simonson.

The company added that it looks to offer “practical, scalable solutions” as hospitality operators juggle new UK packaging regulations, EPR, and “increasing pressure” to reduce waste.

It follows news last month that some packaging suppliers said they face having to relocate their business abroad or close down, due to a loophole in the government’s EPR tax.

As reported by The Grocer, a new body, known as the Alliance of Foodservice Packaging Suppliers, claims an unintended consequence of the EPR tax, which was intended to make producers pay for the cost of packaging recovery, has seen the foodservice sector substituting UK packaging firms with alternatives from abroad to dodge the tax.
