A number of egg suppliers are celebrating after taking top honours in the inaugural industry awards.

The British Egg Awards, organised by the British Egg Industry Council, are designed to reward the leading lights of the sector.

The best Lion Eggs retail
display was awarded to Asda for its work in highlighting the Britishness of eggs.

Stonegate took the title of best new Lion product/ packaging for its innovative Intelligent Eating Eggs.

The best use of Lion Egg products in foodservice was given to John Lewis for its introduction of omelette stations in stores.

The best use of Lion Eggs in foodservice was taken by McDonald’s for its heavy focus on eggs in its breakfast menu.

A leading dairy co-operative has signed up 37 new farmers following the decision by quota holding group Southern Milk to cease trading.

Dairy Farmers of Britain confirmed the new members have signed up to join when Southern Milk, which has 55 members, ceases operations on April 1. The move was welcomed by Duncan Rawson, general manager at Southern Milk. “We are pleased the majority of our members have chosen to join Dairy Farmers of Britain.

“Co-operation between farmers is vital and it is our belief they can deliver real benefit to our members.”

Malcolm Smith, DFB chief executive, said: “We are delighted that these producers have chosen to join our co-operative at this exciting time. We are working hard to deliver real change in our industry so we can secure a sustainable future for our members.”
