Filippo Berio has invested £1m in the launch of an olive oil spread - which will hit shop shelves from September 8.
The company, which is the UK’s leading olive oil brand, said the spread would be priced at £1.49 for a 500g tub and was aimed at the upmarket consumer.
The oval-shaped tub is embossed with crests, leaves and the Filippo Berio label, wrapped in a cardboard sleeve.
Salov, the brand’s Italian owner, has agreed to a licensing deal with UK-based Matthew Foods, which makes the Pure spread brand and is Britain’s top supplier of own-label spreads.
