German Doner Kebab has partnered with meat alternative brand The Vegetarian Butcher to introduce a new and improved recipe across all its vegetarian and plant-based kebab offerings.

Available across all UK branches, GDK’s OV Kebab Vegetarian and OV Kebab Plant-Based dishes now use The Vegetarian Butcher’s NoChicken Chunks, which are “designed to deliver the taste, texture and versatility of real chicken”, the brand said.

For the OV Kebab dishes, the NoChicken Chunks, which are infused with the same blend of seasonings used in GDK’s doner kebab, will be served with lettuce, tomatoes, onions and red cabbage in a handmade toasted sesame waffle bread with the kebab brand’s three signature sauces (garlic, yoghurt and spicy).

The NoChicken Chunks can also be served as a choice of protein across several of GDK’s most popular dishes.

The Vegetarian Butcher’s products are made using soy and have a 70% lower global warming impact, 53% lower land use and 3% lower water consumption impact than chicken, according to Unilever’s safety & Environmental Assurance Centre study. They also offer nutritional benefits such as comparable protein levels, lower saturated fat and more fibre, according to the brand.

“We’re delighted to be working with The Vegetarian Butcher to take our plant-based menu offering to the next level,” said GDK chief marketing officer Chris Waters. “We are both aligned on our desire to offer innovative product development and deliver plant-based food experiences that truly provide quality and flavour to customers.”

The Vegetarian Butcher chief marketing officer Simon Colthorpe added: “The best way to win over meat lovers is by showing them they don’t have to sacrifice meat. This partnership is another step forward on our mission to serve meat lovers the flavours and textures they know and love.

“With its juicy bite and flavoursome taste, the new plant-based kebab delivers everything fans expect. Many meat lovers may not even taste the difference.”
